I’ve never been to the Fringe festival. The most I’ve seen to do with the Fringe is all the street performers that gather on Rundle Mall. These varied as they do, from the real showmen who attract massive audiences, to the tiny 6 year olds who play the violin like naturals. I always wanted to go see the big comedy acts, plays and displays that come with the festival but have never had the money to go see any, or the foresight to buy tickets in advance and missed out on every show. Every year I tell myself I’ll get to see something, but being me, I never go through with that plan.
Yesterday, I was out with Courtney to get her phone, and do the something I’d been talking about for ages; yes, as I’ve been talking about, we went to something in the Fringe. We got there halfway through the day, and I’d had a very different picture to what the Garden Of Unearthly Delights would look like. It had a Ferris wheel that moved extra fast, the usual food stalls, and some novelty stalls selling items that really have nothing to do with anything, but are still awesome. And some small theatres where they hold the main paid acts. It looked like any town show. At night though, I was not disappointed. The lights were almost as captivating as the performers themselves. It was hard to concentrate on anything with so much to take in.
Unfortunately we had no money for anything except some food, so we took in the sights, and watched the free street performers. They were great at keeping the audience entertained, and kept most of us laughing throughout their whole shows. Half of what they did wasn’t even rehearsed, but dependant on the people that came. The audience was eager to participate, and the jokes were perfect for both kids AND adults. I really wish now that I had some photos, because explaining any of the tricks done, just wouldn’t suffice. It’s something people just NEED to see. Particularly when one particular performer, cuts a cucumber on a volunteers stomach, with a machete. They know how to play suspense.
