Trent Reznor (Of Nine Inch Nails fame), Atticus Ross and Karen O covered Led Zepplin’s Immigrant Song? Really?
Fuck. Yes.
This is what a cover should sound like; it’s not so much copying the song as re-imagining it into something completely new. I love it, and it’s actually got me interested in seeing what The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is all about.

I really miss when The Simpsons was exceptionally funny. In the over twenty years that the show has been on the air, it has evolved and usually for the better. However, in the past two or so years it feels like the show is trying too hard to be funny now. With shows like Family Guy and American Dad proving that completely random things can be funny, it feels like The Simpsons is attempting to emulate them to getting better ratings.
Whenever I see a new episode, I’m left wondering what happen to my beloved show.

How do you classify what is mainstream? More importantly, how do you discern that from what is not mainstream?
Mainstream, as far as I’m aware, means things available to the public through common channels involving commercial bodies, such as games being sold through big publishers, and the like.
My problem is, how can you apply such a big generalized label to something, then judge it as such? It is easy for me to say “R n’ B music is not for me,” or, “Jesus this Death Metal music is ridiculous, I don’t even understand what the fuck they’re saying. Are they just growling?”. However, mainstream isn’t a genre. Mainstream music could be any genre and can involve any theme. With that in mind, how the hell could someone just ask about your views on mainstream music and expect a simple reply?
Here’s my view; this fucking subject is dumb. Mainstream music can be good, it can be bad. The same way as anything not mainstream (Indie?) can also be shit. Musical taste is subjective, and mainstream is a stupid label to judge something on.
Next question.

Watching television with the other half, we were greeted with the following:
I was extremely happy to see this; gaming doesn’t seem to get much mainstream media attention, and see adverts for these things on TV, even if it’s Foxtel, gives me a sort of hope that gaming will be taken more seriously in this country.

Mid last year, I was introduced to this show by my partner. I was sceptical at first, but by the end of the first episode I was addicted and found myself desperate to watch every episode of both season one and two as fast as possible. I have never felt so passionate about watching a show before, and it is majorly because of it’s amazing cast. You can find out about the show here, as I don’t want to spend forever talking about what the show is about.
While I am more than happy to see the show returning for a third season later this year, I am dismayed to see my all time favourite character, Nathan, will be leaving the show.
Nathan had that personality that would piss you off if you met him on the street or in a pub, but in the show his character was hilarious and eccentric. I found particular humour in the idea that his superpower (Immortality) was given to him purely on the basis that he annoyed people to the point that they’d want him dead, and that the things people say just bounce off him (ie words can’t hurt him).
That the most standout character of the show is leaving and getting replaced with a completely new character worries me. It’s not that I think the show will suddenly fail; it will still be amazing. However, I’m worried I won’t find this season as good as the last.

Days without alcohol/soft drinks: 25

This is short, unstructured and written on my phone in the back of a car. However, I POSTED IT SO IT COUNTS TOWARDS BLOGGING EVERYDAY.
I bought the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels and have been reading through them, and am completely amazed at how utterly different the story is to the movie. The characters are more defined and can be related with easier. The story itself is funnier, more interesting yet has darker moments too. It deals more with elements only lightly touched in the movie, and better too.
I know this isn’t unique among adaptations, but it’s at the point that it’s essentially a completely different story. Its weird.
Both the comic and movie are equally awesome though.

There’s not much to say about this, you just need to watch it. I’ve already reblogged it via Tumblr but wanted to put it on here too. It’s a cover of Cat Steven’s song Here Comes My Baby, performed by a group of YouTube artists who are going under the name of Sons of Admirals for this project. They all have their own solo “careers”, but have combined to see what they can create as a whole.
There’s something about the voices on this group that just sound so good to me. It’s probably why I love their other works as well. As any good fan would do, here’s a link to buy the song via iTunes: http://bit.ly/soababy
Listen to it1.
