I decided to make a trip down to Marion today, to check out the Gametraders store they have there. The journey involved fumbling around at the train station trying to work out which of the four platforms my train would be on, and then nervously walking down Morphett Road wondering if I was heading in the right direction.
Eventually I got there, and after wandering around, I found the shop. Inside was a marvellous place, full of games and merchandise spanning decades of consoles. I was astounded by the prices, which were higher than even Cash Converters (Which are renowned for buying cheap and selling expensive). Super Nintendo games –which are up to twenty years old– were selling for forty dollars. I understand that you’re charging for demand, but seriously that is a lot.
I eventually got to the Gameboy section, and saw exactly what I was hoping to see; Pokemon Blue, Yellow, and some GBA SP’s. Naturally, I bought them all. I even got the old Pokemon Pinball to give a spin.
This is part nostalgia, part loving the Pokemon games, and part regret. When I was a kid I worked hard on Pokemon Blue to get all 151 Pokemon. I was really proud of the achievement, actually getting one hundred percent completion in the game. But then I lost the game. I had no idea where it went, and I regret being so irresponsible with it. I consider getting this copy a chance at redemption.
I loaded up the games and found save files from the previous owners. The Blue save file was typical stuff, eight badges and some levelled legendaries. Yellow was much more amazing; same stuff, but the previous owner had a mew. Mew is a Pokemon you cannot get in the original games (Without glitching the game). It was only available through Nintendo Promotional Events, which of course were limited to back when the games were released. The fact that I now possess one makes me giggly; it’s my favourite Pokemon.
Dear diary, it was the best day ever, the end.
