Another fantastic game! Look at that, look at those kills! Those lack of deaths! I am so happy.

In other news, the gentleman known as Slurms has started doing a Let’s Play of Super Monday Night Combat over on Multiplaying. You should check it out.

Brenton’s not-birthday cake.

by ZombieSkittles on March 25, 2012

Yesterday was my friend Brenton’s birthday party, and it was made that much more epic with this cake, baked by a fucking genius1. It was so delicious I’d have eaten the whole thing if I didn’t have to leave early.
I suggest looking at her website Cupcake Treats, and fap to some pictures of delicious.

  1. I’m not just writing this because she reads this; she really does make the best cake I’ve ever eaten.

My housemate makes music!

by ZombieSkittles on January 21, 2012

My housemate and good friend Hugepedlar (That is his real name) has been creating music specifically tailored to ears. He has made lots of great songs which I’ve had the pleasure of hearing when he’s performed them live.

Now the man has decided to bless the entire world with his array of chiptune music, and is now selling them through Bandcamp. Right now there’s only one track on the page (A mix of multiple tracks the man played at a recent gig), but it’s nearly half an hour long, and definitely worth the cheap $2.50 price tag. But don’t take my word for it, read this one sentence review from another listener:

I need to poo.

There you have it. I’m sure you’re convinced now. If not, you can click on the cool art above, and give the track a free listen to see if you like it (You will.).

A book you love.

by ZombieSkittles on May 14, 2011

This entry is part 4 of 29 in the series Tumblr 30 Day Challenge

7153-LThere are many books I have read over the years, but none have stayed with me more than The Chocolate War, a book written by Robert Cormier in the Seventies.

The book was a rather fantastical one for a school kid like I was; a school in which there was a secret society of students who essentially dictated how the students acted.
In amongst this, a new student is thrown who seeks to go against the grain, refusing to sell chocolates for the school, much to the headmaster and “The Vigils” (As the “secret society” is called) annoyance. They do everything they can to make him look like a bad guy and push him to bend to their will, from prank calls to enlisting the help of a bully to fight the rebel, named Jerry.
It all goes overboard from there, and I would explain how, but I don’t want to spoil the book in case you want to read it.

It was so well written and appealing I think I have read it at least a dozen times. In fact, my personal copy is on the verge of falling apart from being handled too much1. The issues it faced, with everything from bullying to sexual issues, strike a chord with me, and the fictional themes surrounding The Vigils were intriguing to the point of getting me hooked.

One other tiny thing that made the book all the more intriguing for me when I first read it was that the setting was one Trinity High School. My instant reaction was “Oh my fucking god, I live near a school called Trinity!”. For quite a while, even though I knew the idea of the secret society was entirely fictional, that maybe the school in the book was based on the one I lived near. I soon learned that the school itself was also entirely made up, and that there are many schools that go by that name, but the idea contributed to the magic of the book.

In the end, The Chocolate War is and may forever be my favourite book. If you’ve never read it, you really should give it a look! It’s less than 300 pages, and it’ll keep you riveted. In fact, I’m probably going to start reading it again tomorrow.

  1. This reminds me; must buy a new copy of The Chocolate War.

Heaven; early Christmas present.

by ZombieSkittles on November 14, 2009

I got an early Christmas present from my Nana; an evaporative air conditioner for my room. Fuck YES. It’s always hot in this back room, and it makes it impossible to sleep when I’m on night shift. But now I have this, I’m in heaven.

I just wanted to brag.

200+1

by ZombieSkittles on October 24, 2009

This was meant to be the two hundredth post here, but like last milestone, I missed it.

I have experienced a bit of a down period in relation to things to write about, which has resulted in numerous posts which are just random thoughts and connected short writings. They were fun and helped in the writers block (I thank Rubenerd for the suggestion. It helped). The themes have pretty much been posted once or twice before; I started the Sometimes series of posts a while back, and have been listing monthly top 25 songs for awhile too.
However due to lack of inspiration, the amount I’ve been posting has increased a little (I’ve posted Sometimes #2 #3 and #4 now) and started Things That Make Me A Bad Person (#1 and #2). They’re really fun to write, as short as they are. Expect more soon, I guess.

Back in the beginning of September, I hit the 150 post milestone. To celebrate, I came up with the idea for 10 Cent Charity, in which for every comment made on it by the end of this month, I would donate ten cents to Blood:Water Mission’s cause. At the time of writing this, the comments have reached around the 120 mark, and I’m making one last futile attempt to increase it before the end of October. It’s been quite fun surprisingly, and it feels good to know I’m donating to a good cause.

In other news, I also started something I’d talked about for awhile; the “girls” blog. Since I copied Rubenerd and merged all my sub-domains and the like together, the title, and home of the blog became How To Fail At Girls. You can see it, up there in the menu bar (well you can if you’re cool and reading this on the actual website instead of RSS). I’m still settling on what and how to write in there, but there’s a few pieces on it at the moment, a couple of which I’m quite happy with; the story of my first kiss, and a post about how I tend to say really stupid things to the opposite sex.
It’s a fun project.

This is post 201, and I’m still amazed at how long I’ve kept at this thing. I’m loving this.

I failed

by ZombieSkittles on October 2, 2009

After less than 48 hours off computers I found myself using it again, if only to install and try Dropbox (which is made of awesome, thanks for asking). So obviously this whole computer-less adventure was a great big failure. Disappointed as I am, I came back to learn a few random things had happened:

  • Britt has suddenly made the venture into vlogging, which is awesome. Also HOLY CRAP!
  • SocialVibe is changing it’s look and some of the rules, which is awesome.
  • Craig’s mum is good in bed, which is awesome.
  • I am awesome, which is awesome.
  • I’m watching the second season of How I Met Your Mother season 2 (finally), which is awesome.
  • Awesome awesome awesome, awesome mcawesome-some.

Catching up with an old friend + art!

by ZombieSkittles on July 5, 2009

Went out and caught up with my old friend Charlotte, which involved going to her new house and watching DVDs and chatting. Between us and her roommate, I eventually learned something I should of known all along; Charlotte is an artist. Things progress, and she’s brought out her paintings. I’m amazed at how good they are, and being me, ask to buy one. She says sure, but once I make my pick, she has second thoughts; my favourite turned out to be her favourite. Goddamit.
But wait! Charlotte says if she still has the original sketch, then I can have it. Next, she has at least ten sketchbooks on the floor, and is going through them. After going through pad after pad of awesome drawings, we find the original sketch, and SCORE! The painting is mine.

The glare detracts slightly, but there it is. I don’t know why, but I absolutely love it despite the fact it’s so depressing. What’re your thoughts on it?
For the record, this isn’t the style all her paintings follow; each one was a different style but most looked like inner workings of a mind. But this one was my favourite; I could see it being on my wall and my appreciating it.
