Something that you’re proud of.

by ZombieSkittles on June 1, 2011

This entry is part 18 of 29 in the series Tumblr 30 Day Challenge

These are hard posts, I tell you what. It’s really hard to pick things I’m proud of, as the majority of the times I felt proud, that moment was fleeting and I move on rather quickly.

The least nerdy (Oh my god I just chain-stabbed three people in Team Fortress 2!) would be how proud I was to be accepted into Roulette training school at my job. The feeling of knowing that I was moving up, however minimal, in my job and earning more money, learning new skills, was something else. It felt great to be essentially told “You do a good job, so you’re moving up in the world.”.

I’ve gone and applied for the next game at the Casino, Commission Baccarat. While I’m starting to doubt I’ve been accepted into it, I’m okay with that; it just means I’m not quite at that level yet. If I don’t get into the school, I’ll find out what I did wrong and seek to improve on that.

Also, I can juggle.

I CAN JUGGLE.

by ZombieSkittles on August 2, 2010

Alright, I’m a month and a few days late on my learning a new skill each month idea, but allow me to explain; I was lazy. Too lazy to make a video. UNTIL NOW.

The lighting isn’t greatest, and my face looks retarded, but I can juggle! Not very well and not as good at this guy, but I can. And this month I’m getting lazy with my next choice of useless skill to learn. I am learning how to fold shirts perfectly in two seconds. That’s right; exciting stuff right here. This particular way of folding shirts is an interesting way to do it, and I want to start doing it. Because I can.

So that’s that done. I feel better.

Skill a month

by ZombieSkittles on June 7, 2010

Well today while surfing the YouTubes, I found a new video in my subscriptions by a little known video blogger called CharlieIsSoCoolLike. The video was part of his Challenge Charlie series where viewers can challenge him to do different often zany things1; in this case he was challenged to learn and successfully juggle. He does it in just over a week, and at the end of the video suggests others learn how to juggle. Sitting here with nothing better to do with my life other than play Pokémon and apparently watch silly YouTube videos, I said HELLS YEAH.

Following the instructions in this video, I’ve started learning how to juggle, starting with one ball (uniball). This will probably take a little while to get to three balls (gifted), but I’m expecting to have this valuable life skill by the end of the month.

This has of course, gotten me looking at other things I could “learn”, and think about things I’ve put on the backburner, including jump style2, Spanish, and keyboard. This has got me thinking that maybe I should try to push myself a bit more to be more productive, but have fun with it at the same time. How could I do that? By turning it into a game!

So each month starting with the current, I will aim to learn a new skill however minor, starting with the juggling. It could be something that takes ten minutes to learn, or something that takes the whole month (possible more). I’ll post the goal and results so you as the reader, and myself can see the results, however bad or amazing as they would be.

  1. In the past he’s done things like paint himself purple, eat fish custard and put as many marshmallows in his mouth as possible.
  2. A type of dance.
