Today I woke up to find an application I’ve only just gotten into using has been bought out by Facebook. Millions of people use the Instagram service and I’ve been quite proud to call myself a user, however new I might be.
I’m seeing a lot of people commenting on the purchase, basically saying things along the lines of “Goodbye, Instagram! It was fun.” as if this purchase means the application is suddenly utter crap.
I don’t buy it. The app or the speculation. It’s still free right?
The application is still free, and as the CEO of Instagram was quick to point out in a blog post, it will still remain the same. I’ll still be able to spam Tumblr with my heavily –and pointlessly– filtered photos, and I’ll still be able to click the like button on other people’s photos. It’s fine.
People will always complain though. Some people are even complaining that this might mean all Facebook users might be able to use a version of Instagram in the future. I see this desire for “exclusiveness” as counter productive; I don’t see how a larger user base could do anything other than strengthen the application.
My only concerns are all fuelled by speculation. If the application is eventually changed to require a link to Facebook, then I might have to give up on it in that situation. I use Facebook, but I’m constantly hopeful that Google+ will get some sort of integration with Google Calenders and as such be able to do event pages similar to Facebook’s. One day I hope to leave Facebook and not look back, but if I end up being a heavy user of an application that requires a Facebook account, I’d be unable to do so. While Zuckerberg has tried to reassure they won’t simply “integrate everything into Facebook”, I’m unfortunately sceptical. Just like Google dropping their “Don’t Be Evil” motto, Facebook and Zuckerberg could one day turn around and change their mind about what they want Instagram to do.
The other worry is that of monetization. Instagram doesn’t have advertisements or any way to get money off of me. With Facebook buying the company and product for an estimated one billion dollars, there’s a strong possibility Facebook will do something to make the program an earner. The last thing I want is banner ads on my phone.
Time will tell, but in the meantime Instagram is still Instagram, and I’m happy with it. In other news, how goes that Android application Dailybooth? I’m still waiting.

Instagram is available for Android? Hot dog, now I too can take photos of seemingly mundane things and filter them into oblivion!
Seriously though, I’m liking this app; it’s a photo sharing service that reminds me a lot of Dailybooth. Since Dailybooth still hasn’t released their own application for Android, this looks like the next best thing for me.
I already follow a few friends on Instagram, but if you have one as well, please tell me so I can check out your photos as well. Poop.

Thanks to a friend, I have been introduced to the curious idea that is…well, read the title. The idea seems cool enough, and although I’m not exactly the most interesting guy around, I figured it couldn’t hurt to participate. The photos below are taken from 12 noon until around 4am the next day. Unfortunately being a night shifter I don’t get to experience a typical “day”, but still.

In order:
-
Hanging out my washing.
-
A blurry photo of my legs as I walk to the shops.
-
The carpark I’ll walk through nearly every single day.
-
I sure do love ATMs.
-
Eating a Ned Kelly Pie from Duffy’s at the park near my house. I love these pies.
-
A shot of the park. It was really nice. There was a family in the playground while I ate, but they left fairly quickly.
-
I loved the look of the leaves on the ground around my feet.
-
The tree I was sitting under. I love sitting there.
-
Having a cup of tea while reading the latest issue of Game Informer. During any other time of the year I won’t even look at tea or coffee. As soon as it gets cold it quickly becomes all I drink.
-
I played Team Fortress 2 for a portion of time. I feel I need to get back into the game a little more, as either my abilities are really dropping or everyone else is getting really good.
-
At the chicken shop with my housemates hugepedlar and aliyaki waiting for our foods.
-
About to catch a tram to work. I love them as opposed to buses because they’re very rarely late.
-
Me in my fantastic work uniform; got to love gold shiny vests.
-
I got my Entertainment book tonight; means I have more of a reason to go out to different/new places. Fun fun saving fun.
-
Late night feed; toast with cheese on top, then topped off with Bolognese sauce. Delicious.
-
My pyjama pants, a souvenir given to me by hugepedlar when he got home from England. Yes, those are Union Jacks everywhere.
-
BED! Where I will be soon.
AWWW YEAH.

Last night was my partner’s Year 12 Formal. It was a nice night, with (somewhat) decent food, nice people and a good atmosphere. There’s not much else to say about it apart from that and that I got to wear my first suit ever. As of right now I only have one photo of myself in my suit, and my lovely girlfriend in her dress. Check it out yo!

I went to AvCon with Brittany for the whole weekend. While we didn’t do much, we met some cool cosplayers and saw a couple of great “events”, including Aliyaki’s lolita parade. We spoke to some of the artists there, and I ended up with a fist full of new comic books.
While I could bore you with silly details of the walking around we did, here are the few photos I took of a few cosplayers and such. I didn’t think of taking out the iPhone much, because I was more focussed on looking around, and hanging with Britt.
In order: Iron Man, the Team Fortress 2 Medic with an Aperture Science employee, some guy called Harris, Silent Hill nurses, a little Airbender, I do not even know what this is, a four player match of Bomberman at the Retro Gaming panel, a Team Fortress 2 Heavy, Steam Punkers, and a nope.avi engineer.
