What you ate today.

by ZombieSkittles on May 19, 2011

This entry is part 9 of 29 in the series Tumblr 30 Day Challenge

Well, we’ll be focussing on what I ate during Wednesday-Thursday, since I have weird day patterns as mentioned in the last post. As with many of the posts in this 30 day Tumblr challenge, it seems like the easiest way to do this is through a bullet list. PREPARE YOUR ANUS.

  • A Ned Kelly Pie from Duffy’s Bakery. Those pies are just SO fucking delicious it’s amazing. It takes the best things about a meat pie, and utilizes genetic engineering to combine it with the best features of a quiche. If a quiche and a meat pie were able to reproduce and chose to do so with each other (Don’t judge them; love comes in many forms), this would be their child.
  • A schnitzel burger from a chicken shop I don’t actually know the name of. Delicious veal schnitzel with tomato and lettuce in a bun. Simple, and tasty. As a side I also had a few chips.
  • A hot dog with cheese and tomato sauce. I live for the taste.
  • Toast which slices of cheese on it, topped with Bolognese sauce. The sauce melts the cheese and creates something sinful, but worth going to hell for.

I like food.

Your views on mainstream music.

by ZombieSkittles on May 17, 2011

This entry is part 7 of 29 in the series Tumblr 30 Day Challenge

How do you classify what is mainstream? More importantly, how do you discern that from what is not mainstream?

171194-lady-gaga-born-this-way

Mainstream, as far as I’m aware, means things available to the public through common channels involving commercial bodies, such as games being sold through big publishers, and the like.

My problem is, how can you apply such a big generalized label to something, then judge it as such? It is easy for me to say “R n’ B music is not for me,” or, “Jesus this Death Metal music is ridiculous, I don’t even understand what the fuck they’re saying. Are they just growling?”. However, mainstream isn’t a genre. Mainstream music could be any genre and can involve any theme. With that in mind, how the hell could someone just ask about your views on mainstream music and expect a simple reply?

Here’s my view; this fucking subject is dumb. Mainstream music can be good, it can be bad. The same way as anything not mainstream (Indie?) can also be shit. Musical taste is subjective, and mainstream is a stupid label to judge something on.

Next question.

This entry is part 5 of 29 in the series Tumblr 30 Day Challenge
  • Doctor_Who_Logo___Transparecy_by_Poison_BaconWoke up twenty minutes before my alarm.
  • Stayed in bed for forty minutes with Britt, talking and snoozing.
  • Shower.
  • Cup of tea while watching The Simpsons and Scrubs.
  • Sent a pile of tweets to @GoDaddy related to the retardation which is the disappearance of Britt’s domain name from their DNS Manager.
  • I like to think I’m immune to the stuff, oh yeah. It’s closer to the truth to say I can’t get enough. I might as well face it, I’m addicted to love.
  • Started downloading the latest episode of Doctor Who.
  • Started reading The Chocolate War. I love the musty smell of the pages from a book.
  • Dried dishes, because I’m all domestic and such.
  • Wrote a post for Wolfing Time.
  • Watched the above mentioned episode of Doctor Who. It was fair awesome, Neil Gaiman doesn’t disappoint.
  • Going through the motions and talking to @GoDaddy trying to get everything worked out.
  • Browsed Tumblr like a bawse.
  • Did a poo.
  • Played some Starcraft, and of course, died.
  • Went along to pick up the creature from work.
  • PIZZA!
  • Finally got Illustrated Sanity tweaked for the creature.
  • Hugged the creature and stole a kiss or two.
  • The creature licked my forehead.
  • Watched YouTube videos.
  • PANCAKES.
  • Watches cartoons while the creature did some posts.
  • Making out.
  • Bed, evidently.

The last two haven’t happened yet, but they will in the next 15 minutes. Woo.

A book you love.

by ZombieSkittles on May 14, 2011

This entry is part 4 of 29 in the series Tumblr 30 Day Challenge

7153-LThere are many books I have read over the years, but none have stayed with me more than The Chocolate War, a book written by Robert Cormier in the Seventies.

The book was a rather fantastical one for a school kid like I was; a school in which there was a secret society of students who essentially dictated how the students acted.
In amongst this, a new student is thrown who seeks to go against the grain, refusing to sell chocolates for the school, much to the headmaster and “The Vigils” (As the “secret society” is called) annoyance. They do everything they can to make him look like a bad guy and push him to bend to their will, from prank calls to enlisting the help of a bully to fight the rebel, named Jerry.
It all goes overboard from there, and I would explain how, but I don’t want to spoil the book in case you want to read it.

It was so well written and appealing I think I have read it at least a dozen times. In fact, my personal copy is on the verge of falling apart from being handled too much1. The issues it faced, with everything from bullying to sexual issues, strike a chord with me, and the fictional themes surrounding The Vigils were intriguing to the point of getting me hooked.

One other tiny thing that made the book all the more intriguing for me when I first read it was that the setting was one Trinity High School. My instant reaction was “Oh my fucking god, I live near a school called Trinity!”. For quite a while, even though I knew the idea of the secret society was entirely fictional, that maybe the school in the book was based on the one I lived near. I soon learned that the school itself was also entirely made up, and that there are many schools that go by that name, but the idea contributed to the magic of the book.

In the end, The Chocolate War is and may forever be my favourite book. If you’ve never read it, you really should give it a look! It’s less than 300 pages, and it’ll keep you riveted. In fact, I’m probably going to start reading it again tomorrow.

  1. This reminds me; must buy a new copy of The Chocolate War.

30 Day Tumblr Challenge

by ZombieSkittles on May 12, 2011

This entry is part 1 of 29 in the series Tumblr 30 Day Challenge

Now I can really dislike trends on Tumblr. They’re usually stupid “REBLOG IF YOU X’D WHENYOU Y’D.” scenarios, and well, I think it’s fucking retarded.

However, there’s one I’ve seen called, as the title suggests, the 30 Day Challenge. Basically, every day for thirty days you write a blog post centred around the items on the list. Being that I’ve been having trouble writing about anything other than games lately, I see this as a perfect way to hopefully get the writing juices flowing again.

While I’ll be posting them all here, this is technically a Tumblr thing, so I’ll be linking to all these posts from there. So if you’re one of the ten whole people who read this blog and you also follow me on Tumblr, you’re going to get double posted. Enjoy!

Oh hi there!

by ZombieSkittles on June 29, 2010

I’ve been awfully busy doing pointless things that don’t really have a purpose; mainly gaming. I thought I’d bring you up to date with that guy we all adore and worship; me.

With the recent sale on Steam, my gaming is obviously going to have a negative effect on my bank account. I’ve recently been playing a lot more Fallout 3 than usual, as a certain person has effectively been playing so much that she has completely finished the main quest before I’d even made it out of Megaton.
red-dead-redemption1Along with that, I’ve recently bought Red Dead Redemption for my Xbox 360. That game has brought me back into console gaming; there’s nothing like the promise of a GTA type sandbox game to get me holding a controller again. The game handles wonderfully, and there’s so much to it that I can spend an hour without ever doing a proper quest. There are side quests which occur randomly, which you could do, or ignore and ride away. Those sort of encounters would of made the Grand Theft Auto series a more engrossing set of games to play.
The new episode of Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse came out around a week ago, so I played through and finished that. Not to spoil anything for those of you who may own or be playing it, but at the end you screw someone’s brain out. Hot.
Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead 1 & 2 have also had some playtime, but not as much as others.

While I haven’t been posting on here, that’s not to say I haven’t been blogging. I recently decided to give my Tumblog an actual use. Presenting Zombie M&Ms; the place for my thoughts when I don’t have access to my computer. I’ll be posting random things there when I have something to say, but only my phone handy, as well as the usual reblogged crap spewed out by Tumblr. To make it official, I bought a premium Tumblr Theme for $9 that I liked
I’ve also started another tumblog about the game We Rule. I love playing it and decided to see if I could tackle writing casually about it whenever I had something to say or there was an update. I already do this on here for Team Fortress 2, and don’t want to make you put up with too many posts of that nature. If you play We Rule and enjoy my writing style, you might want to check it out, otherwise fuck off. Instead of paying for a theme for this, I’ve instead started using the Novephel Theme; partly because I like the look of it, and partly to test it out for a friend.

So that’s the grunt of the things I’ve been doing that I find vaguely interesting. What have you been doing with yourself?

Question #9

by ZombieSkittles on February 17, 2010

Last night on Tumblr, I was asked a question which I decided to answer on here rather than on my tumblog.

What would you want in your ideal apartment/house?

Oh man, where to begin!? Obviously there’ll be two bedrooms, a kitchen, lounge room and so forth. But additionally, I also want:

  • A room where the walls and roof are all mirrors.
  • A "TARDIS" room; where there’s a small cupboard or something against a wall. It looks like just a cupboard, but if you go through it, it takes you into a whole “secret” room.
  • Every games console possible, maybe in a designated gaming room.
  • A room mate so I don’t go insane.
  • Internet.
  • A nice garden. I’m a sucker for nice plants.

I can’t really think of anything else off hand, but this is a start. If you have your own “dream home”, what would you have in it?

Ask me more questions by following this here link. It’s an awesome link.
