I have so many achieveables!

by ZombieSkittles on January 2, 2010

BLEEP BLOOP.

So this is a new category I’ve thrown into the blog, which is essentially an extension of the Gaming section Actually, scratch that; this makes more sense as just part of the gaming section. I’ve been playing more Xbox 360 and Steam games in the past month, and as it happens these games come with Achievements.

What are achievements, you ask?

Stop seducing me.

Achievements are those little rewards you get in game, for throwing cans are policemen, or pressing start on the main menu. Little trophies of skilful things you do in the game, and they add a bit of replay ability to a game you may of already finished. I enjoy trying to obtain them, and figure what better thing to do, than to talk about the more interesting achievements, or the ones I’m quite proud of (and maybe more boring ones now and again) that I manage to achieve.

Well, that’s the basic introductory post for this section. TUNE IN NEXT POST, when I talk about something no doubt Valve related, since I seem unable to play anything else lately.

I have a writing gig…kinda

I am writing for TechMasher.com a bit now, just writing about random technology and computer things as they happen or I suddenly take an interest in them. I’m still trying to get comfortable so I’m not entirely comfortable with one or two bits of the posts, but I’m working on it. Here’s a small list of the posts I’ve got on there now (not many, of course, but what can you do). If you could take a look, I’d appreciate it. Woot.

  • TweetDeck For The iPhone – I know I wrote a quick review here too, but the one on TechMasher was a bit more thought out, and I like it a lot better.
  • 5 iPhone apps to boost productivity – I wrote this originally as a 10 apps post, where 5 would be useful apps, and 5 would be games/time wasters. It was too long, and broken into two parts. This is the first part, the second is scheduled for later today. When it does I’ll update this post with that link
  • iD Software bought by Zenimax – Found out about this as soon as I connected back to the internet earlier today. Amazing stuff. I can’t wait to see how this affects future games.
  • 5 iPhone apps to destroy productivity – The second part to 5 iPhone apps to boost productivity; details 5 addictive games on the iPhone

Thanks for looking at them, feel free to let me know on Twitter how much you hated them. WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I Will (Probably) Not Follow You

by ZombieSkittles on April 17, 2009

There are hundreds of articles written about Twitter scattered all over the net, and even entire blogs dedicated to the social networking website and it’s related items.
I figured I’d finally make a post about something to do with Twitter; forgive me for jumping on the bandwagon, with a post about who I follow and why.

I have noticed over my short time on Twitter, I’ve noticed the way my fo

llower count will jump up and down constantly, from people following me with the idea that I am one of those people who ‘follow for follow’, like some sort of MySpace tween, begging for people to ‘whore me’, or comment on my pictures. I’ve even had people send direct messages saying “If you follow me I will follow you”.

Dear FollowWhores; I hate you all.

This of course, has led me to come up with a system to decide what new people to follow. It’s a fairly basic system, and looks at two points:

  1. The name/bio: Even if it’s only a basic bio like “20 year old youtuber”, as long as it’s something. A website is a major plus. I am a sucker for other people’s blogs and websites. If you have great content on it, you’re in with a chance. As long as you aren’t on Twitter purely to advertise (the amount of people advertising themselves as marketers irritates me), I may follow you…provided that:
  2. The tweets are interesting. Spam; instant ignore. No tweets whatsoever; instant ignore. I like seeing people who will talk with everyone else, start conversations, point out interesting things floating around the internet, and so forth. You interest me or talk about things I like; you’re in. I remember the minor epidemic when Twitter was discussed on Rove Live, the hundreds of people joining the site just to say “Watching Rove”. It made me, and alot of other people, rather irritated. Consistently  boring tweets like that, which don’t take advantage of the complete 140 characters make me want to punch a small puppy.

Of course, there are exceptions, as in the case of real life friends and the like. However, this is the basic system I use when deciding whether you’re worth following.
