Skill a month

by ZombieSkittles on June 7, 2010

Well today while surfing the YouTubes, I found a new video in my subscriptions by a little known video blogger called CharlieIsSoCoolLike. The video was part of his Challenge Charlie series where viewers can challenge him to do different often zany things1; in this case he was challenged to learn and successfully juggle. He does it in just over a week, and at the end of the video suggests others learn how to juggle. Sitting here with nothing better to do with my life other than play Pokémon and apparently watch silly YouTube videos, I said HELLS YEAH.

Following the instructions in this video, I’ve started learning how to juggle, starting with one ball (uniball). This will probably take a little while to get to three balls (gifted), but I’m expecting to have this valuable life skill by the end of the month.

This has of course, gotten me looking at other things I could “learn”, and think about things I’ve put on the backburner, including jump style2, Spanish, and keyboard. This has got me thinking that maybe I should try to push myself a bit more to be more productive, but have fun with it at the same time. How could I do that? By turning it into a game!

So each month starting with the current, I will aim to learn a new skill however minor, starting with the juggling. It could be something that takes ten minutes to learn, or something that takes the whole month (possible more). I’ll post the goal and results so you as the reader, and myself can see the results, however bad or amazing as they would be.

  1. In the past he’s done things like paint himself purple, eat fish custard and put as many marshmallows in his mouth as possible.
  2. A type of dance.

Today, a good friend who has stuck by me through the years, died. Goodnight sweet prince.

This is worth watching, if just to see me get slapped across the face at 1:09-1:10.

Challenge #5

by ZombieSkittles on December 11, 2009

Already done my next challenge, posted to me on my FormSpring page.

I challenge you to film yourself doing that trick where you hold a broom, look at the top of it, spin around 20 times, throw it on the ground, and jump over it. Also, I will have your running away from the camera photo by Friday night. I will write it down. Sorry for the lateness!

It sounds confusing, but after looking at a reference video, I was set to do it.

Challenge done! It was really fun to do. Of course, my sister did the filming. Thanks for the challenge, Craig.

Challenge Me #2

by ZombieSkittles on December 2, 2009

While I ask that people primarily put questions for me to answer on my FormSpring, I don’t mind when people post challenges to me either. I asked for them originally, but after about 5000 “Do a back flip” comments, I laid off on asking. The only challenge I’ve done until now is the Shoe On Head meme that inevitably got requested.

Today though, I decided to knock another challenge of the list. The challenge made reads as follows:

Jump up and down screaming "I’m a peanut! i’m a peanut!" you need to film it for me too.

So, sounds simple enough. Since I don’t know who actually made the challenge, I’ve posted it on YouTube, and again here, for you to point and laugh at me.

You can make a new challenge by following this link http://bit.ly/ZPform. Please do; it’s really fun for me to do these things.

Hypocritical?

by ZombieSkittles on December 1, 2009

Today while surfing the net, I made the normal visit to YouTube that we all eventually make. As to be expected, Google had an ad on the main page. It was massive.

badad

I know you’re probably saying “that’s not too big, it seems the normal size”, but that’s not the whole ad. You wait 10 seconds, and this happens.

badad2

It turns out all those spotlight videos are fake, and the whole thing is a clickable ad for Coca Cola, that leads to their Facebook page.

Now, I’m no expert in Google’s Terms Of Service when it comes to Adsense for us, but I’m pretty sure that if you disguise an ad as anything but an ad but to gain clicks, you instantly get booted from their program without any chance of appeal (they say you can, but honestly, I can’t say I’ve ever heard of it working.).

Now, here they are on one of their own sites doing just that. As someone who uses Adsense (rather poorly, I might add), I can’t see how they can do this, while the most I can do to mine is put them underneath a rather nice looking horizontal bar (doesn’t the bar above the ads just look so good? I have to admit, it turns me on a little bit.). I’m not sure if the ad in question is actually an Adsense ad, but surely they should adhere to their own rules, at least for the sake of consistency? Am I completely wrong in my assumption, or have they changed the rules? TELL ME!

No title can express how funny I find this.

by ZombieSkittles on November 20, 2009

My brother has a video camera, an early present for Christmas. He has dreams of becoming an actor or a director, so for him this is a stepping stone to greatness. He’s started posting re-enactments of movie scenes Brandon Hardesty style on his YouTube account, the first being a scene from Ed Wood.

Now, I don’t find that funny, I find it a good idea for getting criticism to get better. However, what I find funny is a certain pause in the video I made by accident.

amazing

To me, this is possibly the most epic screenshot of my brother I could ever get. I almost wet myself laughing so hard. To bring the point home:

Back on topic now, my brother has done this re-enactment, and will do future ones, with the idea of getting criticism and to improve. If you have a few spare minutes, please go to his video and give it a watch, and maybe leave a comment on what you thought about it.

I’ve Got Nothing

by ZombieSkittles on November 9, 2009

ChartJackers is a project being run by four popular YouTubers, in which their goal is to get a song written, recorded and on the UK Charts using nothing but “the goodwill” of people on the internet. Everything in the song and connected to it is done by members of the YouTube and internet communities, and all money made by the project goes to Children In Need. It’s been worked on for a while, and now the song is finished, has a music video on YouTube, and is available for download on iTunes. Listening to it, it’s a good song, and though fairly poppy, the money goes to charity anyway, so it’s a win win by any means.

The music video was posted on CharlieIsSoCoolLike’s channel for our viewing pleasure:

Some more information about the project, from the sidebar of said video:

The lyrics of the song are made up of YouTube comments, compiled into a song by another YouTuber. The lyrics were released and then YouTubers wrote a melody for the lyrics, and we picked our favourite. We held YouTube auditions via video response to pick the band, found the producer of the song through YouTube, and the music video is made up of literal interpretations of the lyrics, clapping and singing along, by YouTubers! It’s a bit YouTubey.
All of the money from the song goes directly to Children In Need, so I hope you’ll consider helping us by buying the song, and telling all your friends and family to buy it too! Thanks :)

It’s a good song, and it’s great to see what people can create when joined by the power of the internet.

I wanted to make a video, so guess what I did? Just whoring out my 10 Cent Charity thing, and my friend’s music. Badly.

Does this mean I film maker again? No.

by ZombieSkittles on September 14, 2009

Decided to finally make a video to satiate my urge. It’s just a pointless video of me putting up my photos on the wall behind the computer. Boring but fun to make.

Also found this video in my collections, from when I had to help my sister make a video of dialogue for her Indonesian project. Was fun to make, but came out terrible.

Funtimes amirite?
