It was 7:30am and I turned on the television, and started complaining because Cheese TV (the world’s greatest kids show, RIP) had been booted off for the day to make way for “breaking news” that I didn’t care about because I just wanted to watch Pokémon. I had little comprehension of what was going on thousands of kilometres away in America, or how that would impact the entire world in coming years. I just wanted my cartoons before I went to school.
Nowadays, we see news of Iraq in the papers, Bin Laden is for all we know living under our backyard, and George Bush is still a joke. Looking back, all I can say is wow. We were really lucky back then.

I was actually still awake when the whole thing unfolded, as I liked to stay up and watch The West Wing with my Mum which was on at 10.30pm. The show was actually interrupted by a newsbreak which cut straight to about three days of news footage. I couldn’t believe it when we watched the second plane hit, and then both towers collapse. Something I’ll never forget that’s for sure.
